The Latest on the Lowes

We started this blog to share the transformation of our 1926 fixer...but with time and the addition of kids it has become my way of documenting two childhoods...the triumphs, moments of hilarity, lessons learned and everything in between.

Musings on the past year

I can so clearly remember the day Lily was born - seeing her for the first time, holding her, feeding her. She was so tiny and so incredibly beautiful with her big, alert eyes and bright auburn faux-hawk. How could we not fall instantly in love?

It's been an amazing year. No matter what people tell you, there is no preparing for the profound changes that come with parenthood or the amazement that accompanies the first year's developments. Looking through the posts I can't believe all she's achieved! And yes, I am finding it incredibly bittersweet...I see small babies and I am so nostalgic for her young infancy...but at the same time I am so incredibly proud of the tiny person she is becoming and how charming, sweet and curious she is.

At one year she is on the cusp of walking, is super close to saying "uh-oh", "mama" and "dada", she's standing upright on her own and without assistance (this is pretty funny...she starts at a crouch and veeeeery slowly rises up with a look of shock on her face before breaking into a huge grin and lowering back down), putting balls into her elephant toy to make music play, she's kinda started to figure out her sorter box (with a few hints she can get the cylinders and squares through the right holes), is still mouthing EVERYTHING, has taken on the task of rearranging our DVDs on a daily basis, she loves sleeping in her daddy's lap, cheese crackers, giggling at Paco, splashing in the bath, being upside down, bopping to music, playing flying baby and of course jumping for joy every chance she gets.

Yes, we are deeply, deeply smitten with who she is today and can't wait to see who she becomes.
