The Latest on the Lowes

We started this blog to share the transformation of our 1926 fixer...but with time and the addition of kids it has become my way of documenting two childhoods...the triumphs, moments of hilarity, lessons learned and everything in between.

Vampire Epiphany

A while back my friend Myk made me an offer: If I would help with driving, he would take me to the Pemberton Music Festival with the band whose tour he is currently managing, Vampire Weekend. Now I *really* love Vampire Weekend's music, and lately I have been lamenting my lost youth and wondering how I went from being fun to being, well, a little boring. I used to have a pretty cool life and I've been missing some of my old shenanigans, so I lept at the chance to have a weekend away seeing great music. But here's the weird part: rather than a rollicking good time, I found myself lonely and sad.

Chris played super dad back home in Seattle and planned all these fun activities for him and Lily - dance class, street fair, farmer's market, Swansons....and while he was doing that, I was standing around with complete strangers (Myk had to work most of the time), using a portapotty (we all know my germ issues), and wondering what fun and interesting things my family was up to. Don't get me wrong, I really appreciated Myk's generosity and I was thrilled to see and spend time with him....but when I was on the road home all I cared about was getting back in time to tuck my munchkin in. I guess you could say the trip was a level-setting of sorts...the realization that I am in exactly the place I should be. I love my family, I love being Lily's Mama, and being with them is the best part of my week. Underlying the clubs, shows, and recklessness of my 20's was an emptiness that is now filled.

To highlight this epiphany of sorts, I am posting some of Lily's recent antics. Makes more and more sense why I don't want to be away, missing any of it.
